The number of Coleman County kids signed up to play tee-ball, baseball and softball continues to grow year over year. This year, right at 200 kids will participate in the upcoming season. In 2021, throughout all age divisions in co-ed tee-ball, boys baseball and girls softball, there were about 150 participants. In 2022, that number grew to 183. After completing registrations for 2023, there are right at 200 kids across Coleman County participating in our youth tee-ball, baseball, and softball programs. That is an increase of 50 kids since 2021!
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE - TOURNAMENTS COMING TO TOWN!
On the tournament side, the tournaments hosted in 2021 and 2022 saw 105 teams come and participate throughout 4 tournaments, 2 each year. That is roughly 1,155 players and 2,310 adults that have come through Coleman eating at our restaurants, shopping at our stores, buying gas, etc. We see a lot of teams come from Abilene, Brownwood, San Angelo, Cisco, and other surrounding towns that have a drivable distance. We also have teams from Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa areas that come to participate that stay at our local hotels. Supporters of the Bill Franklin Center should be glad to know that the RV spots stay nearly full during these events as well.
This year there are two tournaments planned - April 22-23 and May 13-14. "We typically don’t see these tournaments starting to fill out until about 30-45 days out. This year, we are already 90% full for the April 22-23 tournament (34 teams) and 75% full for the May 13-14 tournament (29 teams). If the tournaments don’t take another entry, there will be roughly 63 teams, 693 players, and 1,386 adults passing through Coleman between these two tournament weekends," stated Adam Stevenson who helps organize the tournaments.
