The Coleman Bluecats defeated the visiting Bulldogs of Brady 56-24 in front of a Homecoming filled Hufford Field.
Ryland Gentry led the way for the Bluecats on the back of four touchdowns, three rushing and one interception return.
“I like what I saw tonight,” said Bluecat Head Coach John Elder. “We didn’t start off fast the way we wanted, we fumbled on the opening drive, but I feel like we responded well.”
The Bluecat defense battled against a tough Brady offensive line, but prevailed with several sacks, three forced fumbles, one of which was recovered by Ethan Mickler, and Gentry’s pick-6.
“Brady did a good job on trips and empty sets, hitting their receivers quick and moving the ball down field,” Elder stated. “We bent but didn’t break, as you could say, we were finally able to get a jump on one of their passes and Ryland took it back to the house. We were able to get up on them in front of a great Homecoming crowd, Bluecat Nation is definitely behind us.”
A game played half in the dark, after the southeast light pole lost power during the Halftime festivities, ended with an eruption of points for Coleman. In addition to Gentry’s four touchdowns, Jadin Jackson ran for two of his own and threw a 57 yard strike to Braxton Smith for another. Brent Bouldin also rumbled his way into the end zone to round out the scoring.
Smith returned to his extra point duties this week converting 6 of 7 attempts. He even completed a pass to Hunter Lackey for a 2-point conversion after a bobbled snap.
After this win, the Bluecats improve to 3-0 with a road trip to Llano ensuing next Friday Night. Kickoff will be at 7:00pm for those in person, KOXE’s broadcast will begin at 6:45.
