Guy Francis Bond, 92, of San Angelo and former resident of Smithville, passed from this life on Friday, August 13, 2021 at his home in San Angelo surrounded by family, to his eternal heavenly home. Guy was born November 1, 1928 to William Roy Bond and Rena Gaines Bond in Novice.
There will be a private interment in the Bond family plot at Rough Creek Cemetery in Novice. Arrangements are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman.
Guy started life in difficult times during the depression. Striving often develops character and a “can do” attitude. He grew in character. He went to school in Novice and when he graduated, he said his mother kicked her fair-haired boy out to find gainful employment. He found work with Phillips and was sent to work in Oil Center, New Mexico, where he met Joan. Love bloomed and at her high school graduation, he gave her an engagement ring. Soon after, he left for service to his country in the Air Force. Guy was honorably discharged and returned to Oil Center on September 5, 1952, keeping his promise. Guy and Joan were married two days later on September 7th. He has told his story many times, “Out of the frying pan, into the fire.”
Life was good. In 1953, a son, Steve, blessed Guy and Joan. Later a daughter, Darla, continued the blessings for the new family. As a family man, Guy felt he needed more education and took advantage of the G.I. Bill. He enrolled in Hardin Simmons, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. After graduation and through the years, he provide well for his family. He worked for Phillips, N.N.G. and Enron, before retiring. He was a hard worker, team member, dependable and respected.
As a young man, Guy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Through the years, he served Him well. In retirement, Guy chose RVing with a purpose. He joined a group of volunteers called RVICS (Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service). He traveled, enjoyed life, gained friends and served the Lord.
Left to remember Guy are his wife, Joan Bond; daughter, Darla Bond; sister, Jo Atkins; grandchildren, Ben, Sara and husband, Eric; great grandchildren, Samara, Lio, Adalyn and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steve; parents, W.R. and Rena Bond; and a brother, W.R. Bond, Jr.
Special thanks to Concho Hearts Hospice for their caring and compassionate care.
