We celebrate the life of Darrell Edward Wilson, affectionately known as Popsy or Pops.

Graveside service will be Monday, August 3, 2020 at 10:00 am at the Goldthwaite Memorial Pavilion in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite, Texas.

He was born on February 17, 1941, to E M “Red” Wilson and Edna Louise Rogers Wilson. Darrell was baptized at Fairview Baptist Church near Wayside, Texas, and claimed his crown of glory on July 30, 2020. Darrell married the love of his life and best friend, Norma Joyce Henderson, on December 5, 1963, and to that union came their two children, Cleo Deneen Hampton and J Darrell Wilson. Darrell and Joyce lived in Colorado until 1976 when they took a leap of faith and relocated to Goldthwaite, Texas, with his brother and wife, Ervin and Hope Wilson. Together they opened up W & W Service. They provided many services to Mills, Coleman and surrounding counties until Ervin’s retirement at which time W & W Service became Wilson Heating & Cooling. They operated the family business for 40 years before selling it to his son and wife. While in business, you weren’t just a customer for Darrell and Joyce, you were friends and family. They were very blessed with wonderful friends over the years. It wasn’t just a job for Darrell as he loved what he did. He always enjoyed being around and visiting with people - always with a smile on his face. He loved spending time with his family, whether drinking coffee on the back porch at the lake, cooking a feast for breakfast that the entire family participated in preparing, to the occasional Vegas trip with his family. Family was the huge driving force for all that Pops did.

Darrell has been associated with the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He gained many friendships and brothers during his Masonic years. He also served on Goldthwaite’s City Council for many years.

Our beloved Popsy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Wilson, daughter and husband, Deneen and Mark Hampton, and son and wife, J & Laura Wilson. Grandchildren Andy and Justin Hampton, Darian and Tyler Rhodes and Sam Gilbert and one great grandson, Axel Stephen Rhodes, sister-in-law Fern Wilson Hefner, and numerous nieces and nephews. Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles Wilson and Ervin, and wife, Hope, Wilson.

Pallbearers: Ronnie Auldridge, Jerry Jones, Andy Hampton, Justin Hampton, Sam Gilbert, Tyler Rhodes & Poncho Reyes.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request a donation be made in Popsy’s honor to the Mills County Historical Museum.
