Coleman High School Graduation for the Class of 2020 was held on Friday, May 22, 2020 at Hufford Field. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these Seniors were given the chance to gather for a graduation at Hufford Field, with just a few modifications. All chairs for the Seniors and their families were distanced as needed, but having all seated on the field almost made you feel closer to everyone, ironic as that may be. Photos albums of the evening are attached to this article.
The ceremony began with Terra Reed giving the Invocation, followed by Gage Sikes leading the Pledge of Allegiance. CHS Principal Diana Dobbins then welcomed the audience and Seniors. The Salutatorian Ginny Arnold then gave her address to the graduates, followed by Jenna Deramus with the Valedictorian address.
CHS Counselor Jackie Sowell then recognized the Seniors' accomplishments by listing the scholarships received. Daisy Garza gave the "Charge to Underclassmen" which is usually done during the Senior Assembly with other students present. Since the ceremony was "Live" on Facebook (and can still be found on the Coleman High School Facebook page), underclassmen could watch from home.
Blake Greaves rounded out the speeches sharing the Class of 2020 Memories and Milestones. The Diplomas were then handed to the Seniors by Superintendent Brandon McDowell, with CISD Board members Becky Dobbins and Sandra Rose nearby. The ceremony concluded with McDowell declaring the Class of 2020 as official graduates, the singing of the Alma Mater, and James "Doc" Nall, retired athletic trainer for CISD, giving the Benediction.
Congratulations to the Coleman High School Class of 2020 for handling the circumstances surrounding this graduation so well. Also, a thank you should be given to the Administration, faculty and staff of CISD and CHS for making it a memorable experience for these Seniors and their families.
